Mike and Melisa made it home safely and all is well on the home front. While Casey was excited to see his Momma and Daddy, it was Toby, their little pekingese dog, who was the happiest to see Mike. After much begging and pleading, Mike broke down and got Toby for Melisa as a Christmas gift about 8 or 9 years ago. Along with the new puppy, came many rules..."He will not be up on the furniture, he will not eat from the table, he will not do this, he will not do that..." One look into that sweet face and you can only imagine how quickly all of those rules went out of the window. What's worse is that Mike leads the way in Toby's indulgences. He is a very sweet dog with a great disposition. I think he's the only dog that is allowed into the Hope household too, which speaks volumes! Even Poppy thinks Toby is sweet, and Poppy isn't exactly what you call a "dog person".
[Sidenote: Mike, do you remember when Poppy kept Courtney for Jodie one day and she had to go outside in the cold??? He said, "I let that dog out, but I did not put that sweater on it." Oh Lord. That's the funniest thing...ever. Whoo...can't breathe.] For those that just read the sidenote, you have to really KNOW big Hope to appreciate that story. Mike and I can get into hysterics recalling Poppy's past antics. The things that are the funniest are the things that are not intentional...it's just HIM, his behavior, his mannerisms! Kills me.
Anyhow, back to M&M. Mike was very happy to be back home but was a little unsure leaving the hospital. He grew accustomed to his safe, controlled surroundings and was a little nervous heading back home. He went with Melisa to run some errands around town yesterday and I'm sure he'll be back into the groove in no time.
Next Wednesday, October 10th, he heads back down to Vandy for an outpatient bone marrow biopsy (BMB). This will basically check the status of the leukemic cells and help the oncologists map out a plan for his consolidation therapy, which he will begin somewhere around October 17th. That treatment is an inpatient stay and we're not sure if it will last 2 or 4 weeks. I am sure we will know more on the 10th.
I hope everyone is having a good day and enjoying more of this great weather. It won't be long until we are groaning over the freezing temps and asking ourselves, "HOW many shopping days are left until Christmas???" Yuck. Anyhow, if you will please pray for Mike. Please pray that he is able to adjust to being back home. Please pray that the Lord comfort him and bring peace of mind to him as he awaits the next BMB and treatment.
Thanks Everybody!

Oh Mikey... I'm sure that sweet little puppy dog named "Bobby" would have probably missed you as much as Toby did! You know... that innocent little four legged friend that you rescued from the front of Walmart or somewhere and then GAVE HIME AWAY a couple months later!!!! Awwww! Not to make you feel GUILTY or anything. Remember how cute Trey was when Bobby was yanking him around Rachel's apartment? That little dog had a RIBBON for a leash! He was nuts-- Ritalin would have probably been a better name for him! And speaking of Big Hope--- can't you just picture him when he's old and retired- packing around a little white primped up poodle???!! With little pink bows in her hair and her fingernails painted, no doubt! Probably named "Sugarpie" or "Fancie" or something. I think I just saw a pig fly by! Ha! Well I can see why he likes little Toby-- but what do you think the chances are that he would have let that stinkbomb of a dog "Tasha" in the house to cuddle up in his big ol' chair????!!!! Oh-to-tha-hell-no!
Dogs don't need sweaters and I don't need a painted up poodle named anything at all.Toby is a good dog,if your looking for a good dog.It is good to have Michael home, and we won't talk about some of the things you children have done to keep things lively over the years.Between Scott, Rachel, Michael, and Lindsay it has been most entertaining for me and Miss Weiss. The funny thing about all the things that happen with your kids, after you get over being mad as hell, you just remember how much you love em. Its really easy when you are talking about the 4 we attempted to raise to be good, upstanding,God fearing, dog loving people. So,now all of you say a little prayer and I will to. LOVE.
Mikey & Melisa,
I got to see that little Toby for the first time today. I was so glad to see you. I hope everything goes well at Vandy next week. You know I'll be a prayin' for you and your little family unit. Oh heck, I'll just pray for all of us because it takes a village to keep everything in sync. With all of the people in our family we should be able to do that just fine.
Love & Prayers
Barbara
